Four people, including three women labourers, were killed in a tragic road accident on Tuesday in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district. The incident occurred near Sivapuram village in Vinukonda mandal on the Guntur-Kurnool national highway.
The victims were travelling in a Bolero SUV, reportedly headed to work from Yerragondapalem mandal in Prakasam district. The vehicle collided head-on with a lorry transporting coconuts. The impact of the crash was severe, killing two women on the spot.
The SUV driver and one other passenger were critically injured and rushed to the government hospital in Vinukonda. However, both succumbed to their injuries en route to a referral hospital in Guntur.
The deceased women were residents of Gaddamidipalli village. While their identities have been confirmed, the driver’s identity has yet to be officially established by the authorities.
Local police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision. This comes amid growing concerns over frequent road accidents in the region, including a bus mishap in Nellore earlier this week that injured over 40 passengers.
